Threads Exhibition @ TYTO Regional Art Gallery

August 28, 2021

Threads Fibre and Textile Art of the Cassowary Coast and Hinchinbrook Regions, an exhibition which pushes the boundaries of traditional textile techniques into innovative and creative forms, opens 6pm Friday, 3rd September at TYTO Regional Art Gallery.

This talented group of fibre and textile artists from the Cassowary Coast & Hinchinbrook Regions, working in a variety of techniques, will showcase customary textile techniques and original creative styles.

The exhibition features intricate designs and vibrant pieces made from machine and hand embroidery, felting, knitting and crochet, eco-dyeing, lino printing, basketry from natural and re-cycled materials, soft sculpture, shibori on silk, upcycling garments and weaving.

Threads has been a popular exhibition at Mission Arts, with five successful exhibitions in recent years. This year, the Threads group was offered a chance to exhibit at TYTO Regional Art Gallery in Ingham, in a much larger gallery space, offering them the opportunity to increase their exposure, expand their reach and work with other established fibre artists from the Hinchinbrook region.

Mission Arts is incredibly proud of its member artists in the Threads and Cassowary Coast Yarners groups who meet regularly to collaborate on various projects and exhibitions, further their own creative pursuits, and foster a wider appreciation of the intricacy and exacting skills involved with turning fibre and textiles into fine art.

Threads is one of the only fibre and textile events of its kind in North Queensland. We encourage you to support our member artists in this exciting collaboration. Opening night is 6pm Friday, 3rd September with finger food provided and a cash bar. RSVP to TYTO Regional Gallery on 4776 4725. Everyone is welcome to meet the artists for morning tea and enjoy a floor talk on Wednesday, 8th September. The exhibition continues until Sunday 26th September.
