The Social Art of Online Painting

June 6, 2020

We are all experiencing difficult and challenging times during the COVID-19 crisis but one special Mission Beach artist, Sally Moroney, has created an online visual art classroom for her regular students to continue painting whilst in isolation.

In 2016 Sally established the Art from the Heart painting group which met weekly at Mission Arts. The group was originally started in conjunction with Worklink Innisfail, to give their clients a creative and social outlet and has been meeting weekly ever since.  Due to the recent pandemic Sally has taken to social media and established the group Facebook page, Art from the Heart Mission Beach. She is actively inspiring her students to paint from their lounge rooms, they receive positive feedback and are encouraged to post their completed paintings for public viewing.

Sally is a renowned Queensland artist practicing for over 40 years and is passionate about making art available to everyone, both adults and children, regardless of what skill level they possess. “We might be physically isolated from friends and family but being in self isolation doesn’t mean we have to stop experiencing art. My painting group, Art from the Heart, is a perfect example how artists find ways to adapt to a crisis and seek other alternatives to collaborate – especially online.” Sally Moroney stated.  “I cater for the beginner to the emerging artist but teach mainly acrylic. I am extremely proud of this art group as they have taken to social media to showcase their artwork. Whilst not a regular art class they continue to paint and learn from each other.”

While Mission Arts was closed due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the group met at a local hall with restricted numbers. Art From The Heart sessions resume at Mission Arts from 9th June. For enquiries and bookings for Tuesday sessions, please email salad(at)
