Primed & Oiled

July 13, 2020

OILED welcomes artists at all levels, including beginners, wishing to explore painting with like-minded friends.

OILED, an exciting new group exploring the art of oil painting, commenced at Mission Arts on Thursday 9 July.  The untutored class attracted several artists keen to improve their painting skills and knowledge, and participate with others in a creative and friendly environment. Although the group is focused on oil painting, artists from other mediums such as watercolour and acrylic are welcome.

During the coffee break Mission Beach artist Bruce Parry presented a talk on painting beach grass using various brushes, colours and techniques. Bruce made use of his landscape works to demonstrate his painting method and to offer new technical skills and tips to the class.

“OILED was created to encourage fellowship among artists and to build greater confidence and creativity in their painting”, Carol Giuliany stated. “The group was so encouraging to each other and I learnt a lot about different painting methods and styles. I urge anyone interested in painting to join OILED as it offers a positive and safe space for sharing information and receiving constructive feedback on your work.”

OILED meets again at 10am Thursday 13 August at Mission Arts. Ingrid Mason, Mission Beach artist, will give a short reading of her written work, a letter to Spanish romantic painter and printmaker, Francisco Goya thanking him for his remarkable paintings.

OILED welcomes artists at all levels, including beginners, wishing to explore painting with like-minded friends.
