Hanging By a ThreadJune 29, 2020
A unique & vibrant celebration of fibre & textile art as expressed by artists of the Cassowary Coast.
Mission Arts is thrilled to be hosting the THREADS exhibition. This event features innovative fibre and textile work by artists keen to explore diverse and distinctive sculptural art.
The pieces in THREADS are distinctive and colourful, and combine highly original sculptural techniques and building materials to create a fresh approach to contemporary art. The exhibition includes items made of wool, silk, rope, fabric and other natural materials and presented through knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery, fabric printing, basketry and sculpture. Some intricate and complex pieces include fashion such as eco-dyed clothes and knitted and crocheted jackets and shawls. There are functional pieces for the home whilst others are purely decorative items using highly crafted patterns, colours and varied materials.
‘The THREADS group has exhibited five times at Mission Arts, each successfully showcasing a diverse range of work using varied colour palettes and design elements. THREADS is one of the few regular celebrations of Fibre and Textile Arts in Queensland, and the participants are all Cassowary Coast artists or Mission Arts members.’ Sally Moroney, threads artisan and Mission Arts Committee Member stated. ‘We are proud of this exhibition so come along and see for yourself the depth and breadth of textile art. You will not be disappointed.’
A main feature in this exhibition is a collaborative installation from The Cassowary Coast Yarners. Throughout the year the group combined ideas, explored and played outside their current practices to create a wonderful textile artwork.
The THREADS Exhibition exhibition will run from 26 June – 4 August, 2020 at Mission Arts, MARCS Park, Mission Beach and will be open daily from 10am – 2pm.
