Threads Exhibition

Exhibition Date: July 5, 2019 to August 28, 2019

Location: Mission Arts, MARCS Park, Mission Beach

Threads: Fibre & Textile Art of the Cassowary Coast

The Threads exhibition has become one of the highlights of the Mission Arts annual exhibition calendar. Featuring fibre and textile artists of the Cassowary Coast, it is one of the most important celebrations of this art form in North Queensland.

The exhibition features felting, eco-dyeing, knitting and crochet, lino printing, hand and machine embroidery, basketry, shibori, silk painting, and more. As well as works that are decorative art pieces, there will be functional artworks such as clothing, tableware, shawls and scarves, jewellery and bags on display.

A feature in previous exhibitions has been wonderful installations from the Cassowary Coast Yarners, and they won’t disappoint this year – they are working on a profusion of colourful mandalas to decorate the gallery and surrounds.

Workshops have been an exciting aspect of Threads, and this year, supported by a grant from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), we are welcoming Aukje Boonstra from Tasmania in late June to conduct workshops involving reworking old fashion into stunning new outfits, and making artwork incorporating found objects, stitching and eco-dyeing onto fabric.

The Threads exhibition will be opening at 6pm on Friday, 5th July and will be on display until 27th August.
