Art from the Heart
Exhibition Date: June 29, 2018 to July 31, 2018
Location: Mission Arts
'Art from the Heart" began in 2015 when Worklink in Innisfail suggested working with Mission Arts on a programme that encouraged creative socialisation. The aim was not strictly art therapy, but to create a space where all ages and abilities could get together and create images they loved in acrylic paint, learn basic techniques (such as brushwork, colour mixing, and composition), and create a finished canvas of an image they loved.
While the group participants have changed over the years and the group has evolved into a regular gathering of area painters of all skill levels, there is still a great feeling of camaraderie, support and good humour that makes 'Art from the Heart' a joyful experience every week. The group's current participants are proud to hold an exhibition, showcasing their recent works and learning new skills in the process – preparing their work for display and putting together all that a group exhibition entails – arranging and hanging the art, composing artist statements, generating publicity, coordinating the opening night, etc.
The resulting exhibition shows great skill development – some abstract, some realistic; some artists working from photos and images, others free and original. A feature will be a collaborative artwork , based on one of Marcia Baker's magnificent sunrise images, which we will be raffling as a fundraiser.
Come and join us at Mission Arts for the opening on Friday evening, 29th June, at 6pm. We will have a selection of finger food, cash bar, and live music by singer/guitarist Paul Kunne. The exhibition will be open until Tuesday, 31st July. Mission Arts Gallery and Gift Shop is open 10am to 2pm daily.
